Organisers of a spring shopping day in Oakham say they hope to at least repeat the experience annually.
Oakham Town Council worked with Rutland County Council and money from the UK Prosperity Fund helped pay for it. Yesterday the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness and Mayor of Oakham councillor Paul Ainsley judged a spring shop window competition as part of the day. First place went to Home Instead. Second place Hungry Birds and a special commendation to Cromwells.
Dr Furness said:
"What's been lovely is seeing so many happy people enjoying themselves. And I think it's a really lovely event."
And the Mayor said:
"And I'm hoping that this becomes an annual event. And that we will grow from here. It's wonderful. I'm excited."
