Time is running out if you'd like to add your name to a campaign to urge the government to protect Rutland ceremonial status.
It was this day in 1997 Rutland County status returned and planned local government reorganisation, which is likely to see councils merged into larger authorities, is likely see the status lost once again. The petition, organised by MP Alicia Kearns, closes this afternoon. All physical signatures need to be at her office on Market Street by 2:00 PM.
‘The last day to hand in your petitions to protect Rutland’s ceremonial status. That's about who we are, who we are on the map, and essentially how we live our lives, and how we identify. It is not about which council we end up in. Please drop by my office before 2pm to sign the petition if you haven't already, or alternatively return any petitions that you have sat within your pub, shop, you name it. Thank you so much to everyone for how amazing you've been and I'll be presenting it on Wednesday evening in Parliament’.
