Works to make the A1 safer between South Witham and Little Ponton begin on Monday.
The work, which will be overnight on weekdays between 8:00pm and 6:00am, will start with the northbound carriageway being closed and southbound will be worked on during late March to mid-April. Diversions will be via the A606 and A607. Work will include resurfacing and refreshing road markings, improving signage, clearing vegetation and carrying out layby maintenance work. National Highways is also consulting on closing 16 of the smaller crossings after nearly 2,000 signatures calling for safety improvements were collected by Rutland and Stamford MP Alicia Kearns. The petition is still open to sign on her website.
