Rural police take lead on Operation Snaffle

Police across Rutland and Leicestershire are educating drivers about the dangers of passing horses too close and too fast.

Operation Snaffle took place this week at Great Dalby and 11 close passes were recorded. When vehicles are pulled over drivers and passengers are shown a virtual reality video that puts them in the saddle to experience what riders go through when vehicles spook horses. Last year the British Horse Society had over 3,000 incidents reported to them and say 81% were caused by a vehicle passing too close or too fast. The advice is to pass horse riders at 10 miles an hour, 2 metre width and do so gently.
