Rutland County Council is preparing for a wet winter by clearing drains and gullies to get rid of any excess water that could cause problems over the next few months.
The investigation into the new year flooding is still ongoing. They have announced plans to clear and inspect 4,000 drains and gullies. Portfolio holder for transport, environments and communities at Rutland County Council, Christine Wise, says they're trying to be one step ahead and needs your help too.
‘The coming season we are going to be clearing and inspecting 4,000 of the drains and gullies around the county to make sure they're ready for the winter season. We are also engaged in digging out and creating grips and natural gullies to drain the water away. We are aware that flooding is a concern for residents and businesses in Rutland given what happened to us last year. We are in the middle of our Section 19 investigation, but we're not waiting for the conclusion of that. We are getting on with work in those areas that we know we can do work in or we know what the problems were. So even with all the work that the council is doing now and as we approach the winter season, it is still important for communities and business owners to do what you can to protect your property and your belongings from whatever the winter throws at us’.
