Rutland County Council say progress is being made to tackle the growing problem of flooding in the county.
The post of Flooding Officer has been offered to a potential candidate and they attended a flooding resilience forum meeting this week with Leicester and Leicestershire. The Section 19 report from last year's floods is now nearly ready to be shared. Highways, Environment and Communities portfolio holder Councillor Christine Wise says they have been taking action.
‘Yes, as part of the Resilience Forum there were emergency meetings. Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland have a forum where we respond in emergencies. That forum outside of emergencies has a dialogue with the water companies and the Environment Agency, and all of those bodies. I think last year's floods meant that this year we were able to kick into action perhaps more smoothly. So that their highways inspectors worked very closely with our new highways contractor, Thomas Bow, to get out to check road conditions, to decide which roads need flood notices, which ones needed to be closed and any actions that needed, such as the Manton Road rail bridge where Thomas Bow installed the traffic lights’.
