Rutland County Council hopes a permit scheme for roadworks will stop unexpected disruption and ensure works are cleared away on time too.
They're undertaking a stakeholder consultation with all utility providers on new Rutland permit scheme proposals. Following approval from Cabinet earlier this month, the scheme would apply to all works on all roads and would require a fee to be paid by contractors for any works on Rutland's highways.
Financial penalties may be imposed for works that don't complete on time, for working without a permit, or who breach the conditions of a permit, like starting work before an agreed time. Permits have been used in other counties for 15 years. The Council says it's a great step forward to minimise disruption on Rutland's roads.
