A hundred years of healthcare on Cold Overton Road in Oakham is being celebrated today with a family fun day at the Rutland Memorial Hospital.
The facility was built in the memory of the local man who died in World War One. 100 years ago it moved to its current site, Ward Sister of the Rutland Ward, Carla Yaxley, says there are lots of free family activities between 11:00am and 4:00pm today, as well as a chance for people to come along and share their memories of the hospital.
‘Money from the raffle is going to try and renovate the garden for the in-patients so that that can go out there a lot more. So we're going to look at that after the event and hopefully the patients will have somewhere to go with their families sheltered. Also, a lot of staff volunteering for the day as well, so they'll be manning the stalls and they can give their bit of history as well. Obviously, the staff have been here for longer than I have even been here, so hopefully they'll be a lot of knowledge around the history of the hospital that we can share with the public as well’.
