Rutland MP urges UK government to support Afghan refugees

As thousands of Afghans struggle to find flights out of Kabul, Alicia Kearns is urging the Ministry of Defence to release some of its housing to support the growing number of refugees from Afghanistan.

Rutland’s MP believes that the MoD should use some of its housing stock in Rutland to accommodate some Afghan refugee families. Alicia Kearns says it is vital we provide as much refuge as we can to those who helped us in our attempt to make their country safer.

Melton borough council is committed to supporting at least two families from the war torn country.

Meanwhile the mass airlift out of Afghanistan began again this morning as thousands of Afghans try desperately to find flights out of Kabul airport, following the swift takeover of the country by the Taliban.
