The Rutland Ospreys are on their way, and the first could be with us in the next few days.
Matt Skase, Visitor and Events Officer at the Lindon Visitor Centre at Rutland Water, says:
"Last year it was Maya actually on the Manton Bay nest, who was the first to arrive on the 12th of March, so probably beginning of next week is when we'd really be expecting to see those first osprey returning."
"And with this warmer weather, does that kind of encourage them or actually hold them back a bit?"
"No, it's definitely going to be encouraging them to be heading up, especially we'll be looking at like the wind direction as well. So if we're going to start to see a more southerly wind, that might be more beneficial. So we'll check the weather forecast to see what sort of wind directions are coming and that might have an effect on the ospreys."
The ospreys migration journey takes two to three weeks and the Manton Bay nest at Rutland Water is usually the first to be occupied in the area.
