A £1,000,000 upgrade to street lights in Stamford, Bourne, Deeping, Grantham and the villages is set to be complete by the end of this month.
The District Council manages nearly 4,000 lamps and so far more than 90% have been upgraded to LED. Street lighting is the single largest area of energy consumption for SKDC and accounts for just over 4% with the council's total carbon emissions. It's hoped to move away from traditional sodium lamps will help reduce that figure. Street lighting for highways is mostly managed by Lincolnshire County Council and that is still turned off overnight between midnight and 6:00am. However, the district's new LED lights will be dimmed through the night.
