Two members of the fund, which was set up 34 years ago have been honoured, along with others in the NHS, Higher Education, the Pig Industry and one of the leading local champions of Pork Pies.
Two trustees of the Karen Ball Fund have been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours. Founder, Chair and Karen's Father Jim Bolton has received an MBE for services to charity in Rutland, and Juliet Burgess-Ray has been awarded a BEM for her work coordinating defibrillators - the fund has made them available in every village and town in Rutland. The Fund has raised nearly half a million pounds for and from people in the county, since it started in 1989.
Other local people honoured include Karel Thomas MBE from Oakham for services to Higher Education, Stephen Hallam MBE for services to the baking industry and as Managing Director of Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe in Melton, and Dr Zoe Leach from Bourne who's been awarded an OBE for services to the pig industry.
The Chief Executive of two local healthcare trusts has also been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours List. Angela Hillary will receive a CBE. Angela heads up the Northamptonshire NHS Foundation Trust and the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust.
