The 5th edition of the Little Book of Stamford was launched last night with news that shops in the town will be working even closer with Burghley during the Horse Trials.
Until the roundabout was taken away from Carpenters Lodge, traffic used to come through town on the way to the event and people used to get out of their cars to visit the town's shops during the queues. Although the traffic won't return to the town centre, the stately home is keen to promote the town to visitors and has funded some of the directories, as has the Crown Hotel. 15,000 maps and 11,000 books with independent shops in them have been printed in total. CEO of Burghley David Pennell says the link with Stamford is crucial to the success of both of them.
‘Burghley and Stamford are inexplicably linked. You know the park is open all the time, we have lots of property, lots of our staff live, work and inhabit Stamford. So I mean just can't escape the link and we don't want to. Love community, love legacy’.
