Speaking at last night's event on Stamford Rec after he lit the beacon, Deputy Lieutenant of Lincolnshire and former station commander of RAF Cottesmore Gary Waterfall, says it was a day he was honoured to be a part of.
‘It’s so good to be here tonight and I think tonight of all the evenings, I've come down with the beacons, what a tribute. I was in London today, not at the service but an office very close by and the whole of London at a standstill. And you come in this evening, exceptional turn out and it's a real tribute to those that have secured our freedom we enjoy today’.
