A burst water main in the Stamford area has left hundreds of homes from Tickencote to Tallington with low pressure, or in many cases, no water. The incident was reported just before midday. Schools including St Augustine's, St George's and Malcolm Sargent were forced to close and send children home early. Stamford Arts Centre and Stamford Corn Exchange have both closed early, and cancelled their evening shows. Anglian Water says tankers are pumping more water into the system, and if you still don't have water and need some, they have a local collection point at Morrisons on Uffington Road,
9.40PM UPDATE
Our teams are making good progress with the repair and are continuing to work hard to restore normal supplies as soon as possible.
We quickly chose to set a bottled water hub at Morrisons. This evening we have temporarily closed the hub to restock, but we are now distributing bottled water again. Recognising this is a difficult location for traffic, we have also been working to open further bottled water hubs outside the town, and will share the details of these as soon as they are operational and open.
We will be working through the night on the repair, distributing bottled water and setting up the hubs as a precaution.
We’ll continue to provide updates via email, text and online here so we’re asking customers to check for the latest information before making their journey.
7.20PM UPDATE:
Our bottled water collection point at Morrisons in Stamford is temporarily closed.
We're sorry you're still experiencing low pressure or no water at all in Stamford, Greatford, Tallington, Uffington, Belmesthorpe and surrounding areas.
Our teams have completed the repair and we're currently recharging the network to get everyone's taps flowing again. This can take some time but good progress is being made.
We are temporarily closing our bottled water collection point
Due to high demand and ongoing traffic issues in the area, we're currently unable to replenish bottled water supplies at our hub in the Morrisons Supermarket car park, Uffington Road, Stamford. As a result, the hub has been temporarily closed.
As we continue to recharge the network, we're currently setting up an alternative location where we can safely provide bottled water and will share details as soon as they're confirmed later this evening. Please continue to check this page for the latest information before travelling.
If you currently have water
As supplies continue to return, please use only what you need for essential purposes. This will help us restore water to as many customers as quickly as possible.
Important information
- Your water remains safe to drink.
- As supplies return, you may notice your water appears cloudy or slightly discoloured at first. This is normal after an interruption and is caused by air bubbles and changes in water flow through the network.
- Running your cold kitchen tap for a few minutes should help clear any cloudiness or discolouration.
Thank you for your patience while we continue to restore supplies across the area. We'll provide another update as network recovery progresses.

If you don't have water at home
We've opened a bottled water hub where you can collect drinking water from:
Morrisons Supermarket Car Park, Uffington Road, Stamford, PE9 2FT
We know traffic in the area is making the current bottled water hub difficult to reach. This location allowed us to make bottled water available quickly, and we're looking at alternative locations for additional hubs if they're needed. Please continue to check this post for the latest information before making your journey.
When you arrive, a member of our team will make sure you have enough water for everyone in your household and will help load it into your vehicle.
Important information
- The bottled water is ready to drink and use straight away. There's no need to boil it.
- Please store bottles indoors and away from direct sunlight. If you have space, you can keep them in the fridge.
- If family members or neighbours are unable to travel to the collection point, you may collect water on their behalf.
