Annual Burghley 7 Run

1,500 runners are leaving Bottle Lodges at Burghley this morning to run through the St Martins part of Stamford in the annual Burghley 7.

The course means some short term road closures as the runners go down to Town Bridge and onto Water Street and Barnack Road to Pilsgate and back into  Burghley. Race director Paul Cowling says he works as fast as the runners, putting in the temporary road closures.

"The original pitch was linking Stamford and  Burghley, which doesn't really happen very often, which is quite odd because they're like very close neighbours. That's probably the best thing about it. You can walk from Stamford into the  Burghley Park. So we were kind of one of the first people that came and linked the two. The main complication being the St. Martins High  Street road closure which was a big job, took a lot of convincing to allow us to do that but now we've done it for a few years, everyone's quite relaxed about it. It's like 10 minutes and we're gone.I'm running around like a madman, throwing cones out and barking orders and then as soon as the runners have gone through it clears off and the circus disappears."
