Rutland County Council is to reconsider its decision to close Catmose Sports Centre after four members of the cabinet who made the decision to close it at the end of March asked for the decision to be revisited.
Rutland County Council's cabinet is to consider extending the contract with Stevenage Leisure who have operated the centre since Day One for up to 24 months, to the end of March 2025, to give more time to find a new way of operating it, which was one of the recommendations that Scrutiny gave the cabinet. After announcing plans to close Catmose Sports Centre at the end of March when the current contract ends, they’ve also had a lot of interest from leisure operators in taking on the centre, including some who took part when they invited bids over a three month period, but didn’t submit one. The meeting starts at 10am this Tuesday morning, and the public will be able to watch it on zoom.
This decision comes within hours of the announcement that one of the members of the Cabinet, Councillor Marc Oxley is to stand down from the role due to health reasons, but will continue as a County Councillor for Uppingham. His portfolio of Communities, Environment and Climate Change will be split between other members. Councillor Samantha Harvey will take on Leisure Rosemary Powell is to look after Environment, Climate Change and Community Safety, and the leader Lucy Stephenson will take on Culture.
