An appeal for the car to move on which was illegally parked led to the incident, and officers are appealing for CCTV from the West end of Oakham to help in their investigation.
Police have revealed more details about the incident in Oakham where a car hit an officer yesterday afternoon, causing him to mount the bonnet, before he landed on the pavement on Oakham High Street. The driver in a grey Honda CRV was illegally parked when officers challenged him at just after ten past 3. When the man apparently refused to engage, he drove towards the Police, the officer involved was left with minor cuts and grazes. The driver then collided with two stationary vehicles, before making off from the scene. The car involved was later founded abandoned on Harington Way and has since been recovered by Police. Despite using a number of officers, a police dog, drone and the helicopter, they’re still searching for the driver. Officers have been speaking to people in the area, reviewing CCTV and doing checks on the car. They’re keen to hear from anyone who may have information that can help them, either via the Leicestershire Police website or by calling 101.
Detective Inspector Jim Willoughby said: “We are urgently trying to find the man responsible for this incident. Luckily the officer was not seriously injured, but this doesn’t take away from the fact that he was driven at and hit by a car in order for the man to evade police.
“We have already recovered CCTV from the area and carried out a number of house-to-house enquiries but our investigation continues and we want to hear from anyone who can provide any information. Were you in the area of High Street around the time of the incident or in Harrington Way and saw the driver running from the car?
“Any details you can provide might help in finding the person responsible.”

MORNING UPDATE TUESDAY 27TH JANUARY:
A car was driven into a Police Officer on Oakham High Street yesterday, after two beat bobbies approached the driver to move them on as they were illegally parked. The officer suffered minor cuts and grazes as a result of the incident where he mounted the bonnet. The driver then collided with two stationary vehicles before making off from the scene – the car has since been found abandoned, but Police are still believed to be looking for the driver, and have launched an appeal for CCTV in the area of Welland Way, Long Row, Braunston Road and West Road. The incident happened at just after ten past 3 yesterday afternoon – they say any footage that shows someone loitering, walking routes repeatedly, attempting to conceal their actions, or interacting with property or vehicles, would be helpful, up until around half past 4. They had the Police helicopter up, and a Police dog in the area to help with their search yesterday.
