Rutland Police is warning of an increase in vehicle thefts in the county
where there's a spike in the targeted stealing of high value 4x4s, especially Land Rovers, Range Rovers and Toyota trucks. Opportunistic thieves are trying doors of cars in residential areas and police are urging drivers to step up their security. Organised groups are working in the area using electronic key reading devices to steal cars quickly and quietly at night. Officers are advising using a Faraday pouch for keyless cars and keeping your keys away from doors and windows. GPS tracker for high value vehicles, including 4x4s, and even an old-fashioned steering lock, wheel clamp or pedal lock can act as a further deterrent. They also urge you to report any suspicious behaviour immediately via 101 or 999 if it's taking place at the time.
