Over 100 people joined a peaceful protest outside the Rutland County Council offices in Oakham to appeal to Save Catmose Sports Centre, as inside the cabinet sought to explain their decision to close it.
Campaigners against the closure of Catmose Sports Centre say they were heartened at the amount of people who showed their support ahead of a public meeting by Rutland County Council’s cabinet to give more information over their decision, which the cabinet are adamant won’t be reversed. Well over a hundred people gathered outside the Council offices in Oakham last night for what was a peaceful protest. An online petition has over 2,600 signatures since the announcement just over a week ago. Rachel Crellin from Save Catmose Sports Centre says they want to be listened to:
