Global Birdfair comes to Rutland

A new Birdfair will be staged at the Rutland Showground in July this year. Following the announcement in November by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust that running the Rutland Water Birdfair no longer fitted with its activities, Tim Appleton had the idea of starting a new event, following the success of his Global Birding website.

Tim was co-founder of the original Birdfair held at Rutland Water, which ran for over 30 years and attracted thousands of visitors each year. Tim told Rutland and Stamford Sound that bringing a Birdfair back to Rutland is like re-uniting old friends. Although he has only been working on the new Global Birdfair since the start of the year, Tim has been inundated by calls from across the world, from exhibitors and enthusiasts.  Tim emphasised that the Global Birdfair will be as environmentally friendly as possible. One of the advantages of staging the event at the Rutland Showground is that the Showground is within walking distance of Oakham.

The Global Birdfair will take place at the Rutland Showground from 15 to 17 July and tickets are expected to go on sale on 14 February. For more details, including information on volunteering opportunities, visit: www.globalbirdfair.org
