Rutland County Council is planning to transform its local bus services to help them meet demand, even introducing evening and Sunday services next year if they can get additional funding.
It costs over £550,000 to subsidise the existing services due to many buses travelling long distances with few paying passengers. Councillors will be asked tonight to vote on a revised bus service improvement plan which all local authorities are working on. A trial of demand responsive travel is set to take place in Rutland in the spring, with free bus travel throughout December and for children during school summer holidays next year in the county. Rutland has received over £700,000 of grant funding from the government to help pay for their plans.
