David Wood, Chairman of the Rutland Agricultural Society, takes over as High Sheriff of Rutland for the next year, replacing Richard Cole who has filled the ceremonial role for the past year.
Due to the pandemic David Wood will swear the oath in a virtual ceremony from his home in Wing rather than as part of the usual formal ceremony held at Oakham Castle. The High Sheriff focuses on helping organisations that support the cohesion of the County especially those working with the less fortunate and with young people. The Office of High Sheriff is the oldest secular office in the United Kingdom after the Crown and dates from Saxon times.
