The NHS in Rutland and Leicestershire is reaching more people with severe mental illness to help them live longer and healthier than most other parts of the country.
They reach just over three quarters of people on the register with only Northwest London reaching a higher proportion. Adults with conditions such as schizophrenia, psychosis, and bipolar disorder typically die up to 20 years earlier than the rest of the population.
Much of this is due to preventable conditions, including cardiovascular disease, respiratory illness, and diabetes. Targeted health checks are offered to those on the register. That's nearly 10,000 people across the two counties. The NHS locally says, as well as offering these checks, they also offer holistic support.
