Experts at Rutland Water Nature Reserve say they'll continue to monitor wildlife at Egleton after hundreds of litres of heating oil accidentally leaked out of a tank from a house into a nearby brook.
Residents in the village raised the alarm after seeing oil on top of the surface. Anglian Water then dispatched an emergency response crew and are working with the Environment Agency and the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust on the clean up operation.
Although most of the spill was contained before it reached the reserve, a significant quantity of oil made its way into the area of special scientific interest. Interest and is also being cleaned up.
