The Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, has paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prince Philip, who passed away on Friday morning at Windsor Castle, aged 99. Prince Philip was married to the Queen for more than 70 years, becoming the longest serving consort in British history.
Dr Furness described the passing of Prince Philip as the end of an era. Speaking to Rutland and Stamford Sound, Dr Furness said that the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme has had a tremendous influence on the lives of young people, and that Prince Philip had been a pioneer in raising awareness of environmental matters in his role as President of the World Wildlife Fund.
