Rutland County Council is revising its new local plan before it's even been adopted
after the government more than doubled its housing target, meaning it's unable to demonstrate a 5 year supply of housing and the county remains vulnerable to uncontrolled development. Even if the plan is approved, it's estimated Rutland will need to make provision for an extra 3,800 houses in the forthcoming plan for the next 20 years. They acknowledge Woolfox and St. Georges Barracks could become large developments with both houses and employment, but say they'll need to properly assess both areas. Rutland County Council's cabinets say they will continue to engage with the owners of both sites and the existing communities around them as they revise the plan for the county. The new local plan came about after councillors failed to agree on taking on St. Georges Barracks initially from the MOD despite £31,000,000 being offered to help the development and its infrastructure.
