Rutland County Council is urging us to use our pumpkins for food this Halloween
as statistics show 43% across the country are thrown away. The council says instead of putting it in your black bin, you can bury chunks around 20 centimetres below ground to feed insects, compost it or use it off the ground as a bird feeder. They also say if you take more flesh away when carving you can eat that and have a brighter lantern on Halloween. Love Food, Hate waste says nationally 2/3 of UK families throw away at least one pumpkin each.
