Rutland County Council's cabinet is also being asked to move forward with measures to protect Rutland against flooding as they hear two reports today.
The Section 19 Flood Investigation Report examines three major flooding events affecting Rutland in recent years in October 2023 and the New Year floods of 24 and 25. The Council has worked with the Environment Agency, Anglian Water, Severn Trent Water, Parish councils and local residents to put the report together. It highlights repeated flooding in communities including Barleythorpe, Barrowden, Langham, Oakham, Whissendine, Whitwell where high brook levels, drainage constraints and surface water runoff led to property flooding, road closures and community disruption. Actions include flood risk management measures, community resilience and ongoing maintenance and operational activities. Members will also review the draft local flood risk management strategy for the next 10 years which centres around partnership working with the local community.
