Rutland libraries are being upgraded to community hubs

Source: Rutland County Council Facebook page

All four of Rutland's libraries will get improvements this autumn as part of the Living Well Rutland programme.

£900,000 which is partly funded by the Arts Council's Libraries Improvement Fund will pay for interactive whiteboards, upgraded PCs, provision for tablets and improved self-service kiosks for books. Ketton Library will close for around six weeks from the 4th of October to allow a new community kitchen to be installed as well as a new staff area. Uppingham is set to close for up to 16 weeks as it's being redesigned with a new frontage and fully accessible entrance. The Town Hall will operate a reduced library book loan service during this time. The garage next to Oakham Library will be converted into and you user space with regular activities, clinics and workshops and the existing space in the County Library will be converted into a sensory room for babies and toddlers and become part of the family help next door. Ryhall will also be re-decorated and have improvements to access into early next year, but like Oakham will remain open throughout. Portfolio holder for adult care and health at Rutland County Council, Councillor Diane Ellison, is excited to see the living well hubs in the libraries in operation.

‘It is going to be so much more flexible that you can get so much more advice there. From health to well-being to advice for claiming benefits even. It is all going to be in that one place’.
