The Rutland Water Parkrun now has its own defibrillator, thanks to a fundraising drive which included donations from park runners and the Rutland Lions.
On Sunday, the High Sheriff was also there to see it handed over. Aidan Haylock, who's co-director of the junior event, says it's a necessary part of them running a safe initiative.
"From a safeguarding aspect, we have to have at least 25 volunteers every Sunday, and without the parents, the core team here, we just couldn't put the event on. But again, we can't put this event on without a defibrillator. So Parkrun stipulates, we have to have a defibrillator on course, and that's not necessarily just for the children. That's also for the adults that are here. We've always kindly borrowed or rather sort of used the defibrillator from the cafe at Rutland Water, but we actually needed to have our own defibrillator. So we've had a bit of a local fundraising event here with parents have contributed, the Lions have very generously donated and other volunteers as well."
