Councillors at South Kesteven have voted to include Rutland in a proposal for local government reorganisation despite a quarter of councillors objecting.
Concerns included absorbing Rutland's high council tax, leader Ashley Baxter said he believed the high cost of Rutland delivering adult social care would fall under a larger unitary authority. Although councillors acknowledge a synergy between Stamford and Rutland, some believe the proposal would fall at the first hurdle due to Rutland's emergency services being joined with Leicestershire. Rutland County Council's leaders welcomed South Kesteven's proposal as an option, but have so far aligned with Melton and Charnwood in a new North Leicestershire Authority.
