Since this meeting was held on Monday, the government has refused requests for local elections to be scrapped in May for Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, so Rutland is not on the fastest path to reorganisation. However we understand initial proposals still need to be in by 24th March, and finalised by November. The government's preference is for Rutland to merge with Leicestershire, but Leicester City is likely to be in its own unitary authority.
