Thousands of homes planned as part of Local Government Reorganisation

Source: Alicia Kearns website

Both St. Georges Barracks at Luffenham and Woolfox, near the A1, are likely to see thousands of homes built on them as part of local government reorganisation.

As well as pushing ahead with merging councils into larger unitary authorities, Labour's also brought in increased housing targets for rural areas whilst reducing numbers for cities. In Alicia Kearns meeting at Victoria Hall in Oakham. This week she estimates that it could be as many as 10,000 new properties for Rutland alone if for instance, the North Leicestershire and Rutland proposal goes ahead.

‘And essentially the proposal states that 96,864 new homes will need to be built by this new authority of North Leicestershire and Rutland. For Rutland they say that significant growth and development sites will be at the A1 at the Woolfox site. They specifically say that we will build 5,000 homes at Woolfox, so that is 10,000 to 15,000 people at the new Woolfox site. It then also says that we're also going to build at St George's Barracks and it says that that would be a major housing node. But we don't have any specific figures, it just says that the County Council have committed that we will build at these two sites’.
