Football:

A poor display from Peterborough United, not helped by a straight red card for Tayo Edun on 27 minutes saw them lose 4-0 at home to Northampton Town, their worst home defeat of the season. At the same time, the Cobblers winning for the first time at Posh since 2006 and first league double since 1986/87 season.

The Daniels thanks to a goal from Connor Bartle in the 93rd minute beat Bishop Stortford 1-0 to move them back into a play-off place in 5th and just six points off the top.

Congratulations to Uppingham Town who have become champions of the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League for the first time since 2022/23 season as they beat Crowland Town 4-3, one of two teams who could have denied them the title. Martin Turiccki with two goals and one each for Sam Blackwell and Harley Pridmore.

The title was confirmed when Deeping Rangers Reserves extended their unbeaten run to eight with a 2-1 win at Moulton Harrox, last year’s champions. A result that moves them up to 7th.

Oakham United recorded their first win in five games as they beat Holbeach United Reserves 2-0.

Stamford Bels made it win number 20 in their last home game of the season in Division 1, 3-0 over Wittering Premiair Reserves to complete a league double. Goals coming from Jordan Neil, Louie Roberts and Callum Willimont.

Bourne Town remain 3rd despite losing 2-1 at Heanor Town in the United Counties Premier Division. Deeping Rangers picked up three precious points in their relegation battle with a 1-0 win at home to Newark Town.

A five-goal thriller in the top of the table game in Division 1 between Blackstones and 2nd placed Retford saw Blackstones lose 3-2, Nathan Rudman and Jamie Short with their goals.

Women’s Football:

Stamford AFC ended their season in emphatic style with a 7-2 victory and league double over Nottingham Trent University to move them up to 3rd. The leagues leader scorer, Emma Pollard put Stamford ahead on 23 minutes which was doubled eleven minutes later by Zaiga Lacite. It was Emma who made it 3-0 on 38 minutes, the visitors pulling one back before she completed her 4th hat-trick in all competitions and second against Nottingham Trent University in injury time to make it 4-1 at half-time. Stamford then added a further three goals in four minutes mid-way through the second half. Emma turned provider for Zaiga to score which was reciprocated to Emma for her second four goal haul of the season with Gina Shaw making it 7-1. In stoppage time the visitors made it 7-2.

Oakham United shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Allexton & New Parks. Zina Cheikh with the goal. The two sides meet again next Sunday at Melton Sports Village in the League Cup Final.

League leaders Deeping Rangers extended their lead at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Division 2 with win number 13 at Willingham Wolves by seven goals to two. Harriet Coles, Jemma Hill and Ali Stokoe with two each and Jordan Sampson the other.

Rugby:

Leicester Tigers failed to make the quarter-finals of the Investec Champions Cup losing 43-19 in the evening game at Glasgow Warriors.

Champions of Counties 1, Stamford signed off their league campaign with a terrific performance at Bugbrooke as they produced their highest score of the season. Twelve tries were scored as they demolished their hosts by 76 points to 7.

Meanwhile, Bourne ended their season with a return to winning ways with a 38-12 victory over Stockwood Park which sees them finish 8th.

Moving to Counties 2 and Oakham lost 69-14 at Brackley. Callum Crellin try and two conversions and a Sam Weatherall try with the points for Oakham. The result sees them remain next-to-bottom, one point above Northampton Boy’s Brigade Old Boy’s who also lost. This should be enough for Oakham to remain in Counties 2 but will be confirmed in due course.

Finally in Counties 3, Stamford College Old Boys produced their best result of the season winning 54-7 at home to Northampton Men’s Own. Callum Fraser with three tries, a brace from Jimmy Twose and a try each for Tom

Barrett, Ollie Sherwin and Alex Walker. Carl Brierley-Lewis with six conversions and a conversion for Aaron Beschizza.

Sadly, bottom side Deepings went down in a close fought game at home to Sileby Town 29-26.

Women’s Rugby:

Stamford Women 1sts completed their Women’s NC 1 East season beating hosts Wymondham Wasps 52 -5 so securing the double. It also made it four wins in a row and moving them up to second.
