Football:

Leicester City scored their first league goals and picked up their first point since January in a 2-2 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion. The Foxes coming back twice, thanks to goals from Stephy Mavididi and Caleb Okoli with his first Premier goal.

Moving to the Southern League Premier Central, and nine-man Daniels, following the sending offs of Connor Bartle on 53 minutes and Jack Duffy 88 minutes drew 1-1 with Stratford Town. The Daniels went ahead in added time in the first half with a penalty from Junior Varela with the hosts levelling on 52 minutes. The point keeps them in 5th place.

In the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League, Oakham United made it back-to-back home wins as they beat 2nd placed Warboys Town 1-0. Kyul Thurley with the goal. Deeping Rangers Reserves nine game unbeaten run has ended as they lost 3-0 away to Ramsey Town.

Bourne Town came back from going behind against Belper United who had a player sent off on 50 minutes to win 2-1 and complete the double in the United Counties Premier Division. The winner coming from James Hill-Seekings on 71 minutes.

Deeping Rangers made it two home wins in a row as they beat bottom club Shirebrook Town 3-0.

Blackstones in Division 1 beat Coalville Town at home 2-0 to remain 4th thanks to goals from Will Bestwick and Captain Jamie Short.

A cup history making afternoon for two of our local teams. We start with Oakham United Women who have won their first silverware after beating Allexton & New Parks 5-1 in the Leicestershire Women’s League Cup Final.

Oakham United got off to the best possible start with Zina Cheikh, player of the match putting them ahead on 11 minutes with a superb volley. It could have been two a minute later when a Molly Cunningham effort was well saved. Despite dominating the half, it was not until the 35th minute that the lead was doubled, Zina Cheikh with a header provided by Molly Cunningham to go in two up at half-time.

On 52 minutes, Zina turned provider for Gemma Davies to fire home and make it 3-0. Ten minutes later, Molly Cunningham finally got on the score sheet. Allexton & New Parks pulled one back on 77 minutes to make it 4-1 but within two minutes, the four-goal difference was restored as substitute Maja Ziemian, who had only been on for four minutes making it 5-1.

The form book was thrown out the window at Wembley as Peterborough United, who had to lost to them in the mid-week beat Division One Champions Birmingham City 2-0. In the process becoming the first club to retain the EFL Trophy.

Both goals came in the first half, Harley Mills on 15 minutes and captain Hector Kyprianou with an excellent strike on the stroke of half-time.

Women’s Football:

Cambridgeshire Women’s League Division 1, Ketton Sports lost away 2-0 at Eaton Socon so completing a league double for them. In the top of the table clash in Division 2, leaders Deeping Rangers lost at 2nd placed South Lincolnshire Swifts 4-1 to end their 100% record, Hannah Murphy with the goal. Deeping Rangers remain top.

Youth Football: 

Leicestershire Youth League Under 16 Division 3 – Anstey Nomads 2-5 Cottesmore

Leicester & District Sunday Juniors League – Cottesmore 8-2 Loughborough Lions

Today top of the table Blackstones go to Rushden & Diamonds in the Northants

Rugby:

Investec Champions Cup, and Northampton Saints are through to semi-finals where they will meet Leinster away after their 51-16 win over Castres as they scored six tries including a brace for Henry Pollock.

Bourne are in Round 2 of the Papa John’s Community Cup Counties 1 North Shield after beating Peterborough Lions by 31 points to 28.
