Football:

Peterborough United recorded their biggest win ever against Cambridge United 6-1. This included a hat-trick from Kwame Poku.

The Daniels despite leading through Richard Gregory lost 3-1 at home to AFC Telford United a result that means they drop to 5th.

In the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League, Oakham United lost 4-1 away at Warboys Town, Will Pearce-Smith with the goal. Deeping United beat Holbeach United Reserves 2-1 to complete the double over them.

Stamford Bels in Division 1 march on, win number fourteen and double over Long Sutton Athletic with a 9-1 home win. Jordan Neil scoring four then one each for Paul Cramp, Dan Gargan, Lewis Morley, Callum Willimont and Alfie Winters.

Bourne Town are through to the FA Vase 3rd Round after their 3-1 win at Market Drayton Town with goals from Zacorie Allen, Robbie Ellis and Brad Marshall.

Blackstones in Division 1 were 3-1 up thanks to a brace from Nathan Rudman and Johan Coughlan before losing 4-3 at top of the table Clipstone. The winner from the last kick of the game on 99 minutes, a penalty.

Cottesmore won for the first time in five beating Burbage & Huncote 4-3 away to complete a league double. They were trailing 2-0 at half-time and then 3-1, James Lewis having pulled it back to 2-1, Leon Kavanagh, Brima Daramy made it 3-3 with Robbie Dance the winner on 94 mins.

Leicester City had another fruitless journey to Manchester United this time losing 3-0.

Women’s football:

Stamford AFC bounced back from their FA Cup exit last weekend beating Rotherham 3-2. The result puts them 3rd in the East Midlands Women’s Premier league. Emma Pollard with a brace and Keeley Jackson on target.

Oakham United are through to the semi-finals of the Leicestershire League Cup after an excellent 4-1 win at league leaders Coalville Town Ravens. Zina Cheikh scoring two with the other goals coming from Molly Cunningham and Bethanie Munton.

Both of our local teams are through to the quarter finals of the Cambridgeshire League Cup. Deeping Rangers beat Cardea Ladies Reserves 4-2, hat-trick from Harriet Coles and an Ali Stokoe goal means a home tie against Cambridge Rangers Firsts, whilst Ketton Sports won 5-2 at Cambourne Town, a hat-trick from Fran Kavanagh and a Sascha Smith double sees them at home to Leverington Sports.

Youth Football:

Blackstones lost 3-2 to Bottesford Town in the Lincolnshire FA County U18 Boys Cup.

Oakham United 1 –4 Braunstone Athletic in the Leicestershire Youth League Under 17s Division 2 and Under 16’s Division 3 Loughborough Dynamo Junior 2-2 Cottesmore

Under 18 Division 1 - Stamford Young Daniels 3–3 Whittlesey Athletic and Division 2 - Ketton Sports 6 – 0 Thurlby Tigers.

Rugby:

A mixed afternoon for our local sides in the second round of the Group B matches in the Premiership Rugby Cup. Northampton Saints made it two wins out of two but it took a terrific second half performance by them as they were trailing 26-5 at the break to beat Nottingham 31-29. Scott-Young, Cousins, McParland, Brown and Wright with tries and three conversions from Makepeace-Cubitt.

Leicester Tigers went down at home to Coventry 33-19, a result which keeps them top of Group B.

League leaders in Counties 1, Stamford made it six wins on the bounce as they beat 3rd placed Vipers 38 points to -18. Bourne went down narrowly, 20-13 away at Old Laurentians.

Oakham despite losing 29-14 at home to league leaders Long Buckby in Counties 2 can take some positives from spirited performance particularly in the second half. Sam Weatherall and Will Bell with the tries which were converted by Luke Wilkinson.

Stamford College Old Boys put in an excellent team effort to beat Deepings 39-0 in the double fixture of Counties 3 and NLD Lincolnshire Cup Junior South. Harry Bell and Callum Fraser both scoring a brace of tries, one in each half with the other try going to Sam Duncan the acting captain. Carl Brierley-Lewis continued his good form with the boot with four conversions and two penalties

Women’s rugby:

Stamford Women ran in eleven tries in an emphatic 69-10 win in their friendly at Cambridge Women.

Suz Franks, Jorja Matchwick and Liberty Ashdown with two tries each and a try a piece for Chantelle Miller, Nash Hadley, Isla Crellin, Sarah Mitchelson and Gemma Alcoran. Daisy Attley kicked six conversions and Liberty Ashdown one.
