Battle Proms returns to Burghley House

A unique evening of entertainment returns to Burghley House this evening for the 21st edition.

Battle Proms brings together proms favourites and wartime history with 194 live firing cannon throughout Beethoven's Battle Symphony, fireworks, and the Grace Spitfire, which was the first aircraft to shoot down an enemy on D-Day. The iconic aircraft, which is based at Sywell in Northamptonshire, has a major role in the performance as Marketing Manager of Battle Proms Emma Dexter explains.

"It's not just a fly past, you see, it's a choreographed musical display, so it literally is in the skies for the whole of the first two pieces of the orchestra performance, which this year starts with Elgar and Pomp and Circumstance.

So really upbeat, but really moving and just a magical way to enjoy such an iconic piece of our aviation history. From the minute you arrive, you'll be treated to a live jazz band performance, and there will be the victory swing dancers teaching you to jazz and jive. If you want to join in the displays, start at 6.15 with the cavalry.

Shortly after we have the Red Devils, the British Army's official parachute team jumping in, that is absolutely breathtaking, that display. Then we are joined by the Battle Proms Belles doing some fabulous vintage vocals, but the orchestral performance is just glorious. It takes in a lot of classical favourites that people will know and love."
