As revellers gather at Uppingham marketplace tonight to the unique sound of the Tennyson chimes
at the parish church which you will also hear on Rutland and Stamford Sound. A New Year's Eve party at Edith Weston will break to allow some of the partygoers to climb the tower of Saint Mary's to ring in the new year. The bells will be half muffled at 11:50 and open bells at midnight itself. Kath Durant from Edith Weston says their bellringers will leave the village party to scale the tower.
‘We've got a very dedicated group of bellringers and they've been doing a fantastic job learning their craft. So yeah, new year they're going to ring out the old and bring in the new without any accidents we hope’.
