An open field of competitors will take part in Defender Burghley Horse Trials next month, representing seven nations from the USA, New Zealand, continental Europe, and the best of British talents.
New Zealand's Tim Price, along with his wife Jonelle, are returning to the five-star event along with Team GB's Laura Collett and Harry Meade. Event director Martyn Johnson says, along with an appearance from Piggy March's Vanir Kamira and also Oliver Townend's Ballaghmor Class retiring on the Sunday, to see the fresh horses coming through at Burghley is a huge privilege.
"We've seen a little bit of a changing of the guard with some of those experienced horses being retired, but I think it's really exciting that we've got some of the next generation of younger horses, and those younger horses are with experienced riders, so would have a real chance of coming here and doing well. And I think that you'll see these horses around for the next five years, competing at Major five stars and championships, and I think that's exciting that they're gonna potentially start their big time career here at Burghley."
