A garden centre that spent four months cleaning up after floods in 2024 is thanking two young men who put out a fire in one of their flower beds at the weekend after seeing smoke from the road thought to be started from a discarded cigarette in the tinder-dry conditions.
It happened just before the end of the day on Saturday at Waterside Garden Centre at Baston. They also praised a member of the public who called the fire brigade and the prompt response of the service. The men used the garden centre's hosepipe, helped by the owner after stomping it out wasn't enough.
