Firefighters in Stamford have once again put out a large fire on the Freemen's Meadow.
Last night's blaze was the third in the last few weeks of dry conditions; it stopped just short of the memorial trees and benches. Custodians of the land believe it was started by young people and are asking parents to warn their children of the dangers.
Meanwhile, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue is thanking its on-call firefighters, including those from Uppingham and Melton, for supporting both Nottinghamshire and Cambridgeshire with major incidents, often at short notice. They say this cross-border assistance ensures communities continue to receive a safe and effective emergency response during a period of significant demand.
The service says the commitment of their on-call firefighters has strengthened their resilience and enabled them to provide support beyond their own county. They say the professionalism and flexibility of the on-call firefighters remain a key part of how they maintain their service to the public.
