A new daffodil trail opened in Oakham at the weekend which hopes to attract locals and visitors alike to the historic county town.
It is hoped that a new daffodil trail, launched at the weekend in Oakham, will encourage both locals and tourists to explore more of the town. The route, which takes in a dozen locations from the bypass to Braunston Road, also has a nod to history in some areas including the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain with the wicker Spitfire on the bypass and the creation of the Catmose Arboretum in the 1800s by the Library.
Joyce Lucas from Oakham in Bloom says she hopes it does great things for the town:
“We have guides in Oakham Library, the Museum, the Victoria Hall and at various caravan sites throughout the county [as well as] the Information Centre at Sykes Lane, Rutland Water” says Joyce. “Bring people in, spend the money in the town, have a look at the history as well because we have such a lot of it!”
