Nearly 500 members of Oakham Rugby Club will welcome a team of walkers to Welford Road this afternoon.
They set off at first light from the Rutland Showground on a 29 mile fundraising walk to support Lewis Moody and Motor Neurone Disease. Lewis played for Oakham in his early years. They are hoping to raise £2,000 by walking from the showground, via Melton and Syston rugby clubs, to the Tigers Takeover Day for the East Midlands Derby. Vice chairman Johno Milnes says it'll be quite an open spectacle at Leicester this afternoon.
‘Mini and juniors members of the club that we've organised Tigers Takeover Day through Tigers and Jez Dawson our Minis and Juniors Coordinator has organised it through Tigers and everything you see on the pitch before the game, the flag bearers, the flag wavers are all Oakham Rugby Club members. All players of the juniors and mini sections. And we've got, yeah, like you say, nearly 500 people there from Oakham Rugby Club in black amber, representing a great little rugby club that we've got’.
