Most people in Rutland are feeling the pinch as they struggle to cover the rising prices. Citizens Advice Rutland has surveyed organisations and individuals across the county and found the inflation in prices from food to transport and general bills to run the house has increased to more than many could afford.
The report has been sent to all councillors, Rutland's MP, and also will form part of national Citizens Advice government lobbying. Clare Bryan is the Duty Advice Manager in Oakham and led the study. She says many people are having to make stark choices:
"I think the numbers will increase, particularly with mortgages and the mortgage rates. People will now be coming out of fixed terms, people have been coming out of fixed terms, and they will be worrying about how they're going to pay their mortgages, and they're going to present to us for help with that. If people are in that situation, I would say certainly do come to us, we can offer you advice.
And as people are worrying about that and other matters, they will come to us. The cost of living crisis, it doesn't just affect your finances like you've mentioned, it is your health, your well being as well because actually it all has a huge impact and we are going to see long term effects from this crisis."
