Rutland County Council's inviting comments to a number of changes to the county's submitted local plan.
A six week consultation's been launched this week on the proposed main modifications, which covers up to 2041. These changes agreed with the planning inspector at the final stage of public consultation before she prepares her final report, and the plan can finally be considered for adoption by the county council. The consultation closes on Friday 4 September.
Residents, businesses, landowners, developers, and other interested parties are encouraged to review the new documents and submit their comments online via rutland.gov.uk. Alongside the submitted local plan, Rutland County Council has begun work on a new local plan after Rutland's annual housing target was increased from 123 homes a year to 269 in December 2024.
The council was allowed to continue preparing a submitted local plan, but must prepare a new one almost immediately to address this shortfall. The county's been without a local plan for nearly five years after councillors voted to scrap the last local plan in 2021 before examination, which included proposed developments at St George's Barracks, and also to refuse a £29 million payment from the government's housing infrastructure fund, which would've helped pay for the proposed 2,300 home development there. Since then, the lack of local plan and the government's increased housing targets have both meant the councillors had little power to refuse speculative developments in the county.
