The cobbles in Stamford’s Red Lion Square are to be replaced with thicker setts on a stronger base, to make the surface more robust while preserving the town’s character.
The existing cobbles, installed 14 years ago, have been controversial due to the stones lifting and cracking, resulting in an uneven and hazardous road surface. Lincolnshire County are finalising plans for the refurbishment work, which is expected to start during 2022
