Local people in Rutland and Stamford came to hear the reading of the proclamation of King Charles III in Stamford and in Oakham on Sunday. Large crowds were present to witness the historic events.
The proclamation in Stamford on the steps of Browne’s Hospital saw crowds in Broad Street as the Mayor read the official words. At Oakham Castle musicians from Oakham School accompanied the ceremony, the main part of which was read by the current High Sherriff of Rutland, Geoff Thompson. The High Sheriff told Rutland and Stamford Sound that it was a great honour to be in post at this historic moment and that he was pleased to see such an incredible turn out at the Castle.
