The leader of Rutland County Council says she will engage with fellow councillors and residents in the next few months of local government reorganisation.
The Conservative group successfully tabled an amendment to the motion which asked for debate and a vote of full council before the final submission to the government. The motion also asked for the leader to conduct a series of engagement events to hear the views of residents. Gale Waller says she needs to hear from residents quickly, though, when the time is right.
"It's going to be difficult. There are two stages. There's the initial expression of interest, if you like, to use that term, that we've got to put in by March, and then there'll be a full proposal for November. Now, clearly, we've got plenty of time before November to do engagement, and we will, and we are already talking about how to do it. It's more difficult by March, but in fact, this morning, I was talking to our Comms team about what we can do and how we can do it before we have to do the March initial submission. So it's going to be tight. We're not going to give the public very much time to say whatever it is they want to respond to what we're asking. But I think we can't help that."
