There's a new old way to travel at Nene Valley Railway with a team-building activity for adults.
Visitors can now book a two-hour experience on a pump trolley, as those who built the railway 160 years ago would have done. It's suitable for groups of up to four, and everyone needs to be over 16 and used to vigorous exercise as it's particularly strenuous when going uphill. The trolley dates from 1907 and has been seen on Coronation Street, Barclays advert and also set a world record attempt for the longest distance travelled over 12 hours, 125 miles, although you're not expected to go that far!
The team from the youth side based at Overton Station are leading the experience:
"So they would have ended up being replaced by petrol or diesel-powered vehicles. But certainly when these lines were built over the fens, the whole idea of them was that they're light enough that four strong track workers could easily take them off. So, if it isn't broken, don't fix it - it would have worked very well for many years."
We're holding a drop-in session for local people who are interested in learning more about volunteering opportunities with the community radio station serving Rutland, Stamford and the surrounding area. The drop-in event is being held in the theatre lounge at Stamford Corn Exchange from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday 24 April.
The two campaign groups against the proposed development on the north side of Stamford are joining forces for what they say is one final push for people to comment. Neither Stamford North nor Quarry Farm have been approved for planning yet. The South Kesteven District Local Plan is also out for consultation following some revisions.
